    Shipper Symposium 2015 – Day 3 Recap

    - by Transplace

The final day of the 13th annual Shipper Symposium certainly didn’t disappoint! Attendees got off to a bright and early start (with the help of some strong coffee!) as Frank McGuigan took the stage first to welcome everyone. He took a few minutes to recognize the Transplace Customer Advisory Board (CAB) members, thanking them for all of their years of great service and support, and presented an award to AutoZone recognizing and thanking this customer for 20 years of service. Frank then introduced CEO Tom Sanderson, who also brought Thomas Albrecht, CFA and Managing Director of BB&T Capital Markets, to the stage. Dubbing themselves “Tom and Thom in the Morning,” the duo discussed all things capacity related, including winning and losing transportation modes. A few key takeaways from their conversation included:

Transportation Optimization Opportunities in the Oil and Gas Industry

    - by Transplace

Oil and gas is a truly unique industry. From its world-class production technology to its incredibly diverse needs, those who work in oil and gas have seen many changes over the years.  Most have probably faced some very unique supply chain challenges, such as having to make a delivery to latitude-longitude coordinates (sometimes deliveries can be miles into a vast ranch in a very remote area).  And because the industry also operates 24/7/365, operators must sometimes secure equipment on a hot-shot basis due to the cost of operations, as it can be a tremendous loss if an oil well goes down.  Unlike other industries, those working in oil and gas have to deal with constant, round-the-clock pressure.

Oil Prices are Falling! How Does this Affect Your Transportation Management?

    - by Transplace

Recently, it’s not the sky that’s falling – it’s oil prices. Oil was more than 100 dollars a barrel at the start of the summer. Now it’s around 56 dollars a barrel, and many forecasts say it could go lower still.

So what exactly is going on, and how does it affect your transportation network?

There are a number of reasons for the drop in oil prices; first, our boon finally caught up in terms of mid-stream ability to take product to market. Prior to this catch-up point, a challenge existed in how oil was brought up through pipelines – but now, there’s a glut of materials available in the market. Additionally, OPEC’s decision not to cut production continues to drive the supply, forcing other smaller producers to cut back on their production amounts.

Troy Ryley, Managing Director, Mexico at Transplace, and Alaster Love, Vice President of Oil and Gas for Transplace, sat down with us recently to discuss just what exactly the impact of this ruling will have.
