Looking Forward: The Rise in Trade with Mexico and Canada

    - by Transplace

Nearshoring and even re-shoring have become very real happenings in North America. Due to a number of factors, including increased production costs in China, a rise in shipping costs for ocean and air freight, congested ports and labor unrest, many companies have chosen to move product manufacturing or assembly to Mexico. This in turn has caused an increase in order volume for finished goods traveling from Mexico to Canada, particularly in the automotive and consumer electronics industries.

    Shipper Symposium 2014 – Day 3 Recap

    - by Transplace

The final day did not disappoint as this year’s Shipper Symposium came to a close.  Attendees filed into the main ballroom in anticipation of hearing from speakers Economist Paul Bingham and former President of Mexico Vicente Fox in addition to hearing thoughts from the “NAFTA @ 20” panel.

But it wouldn’t be a Shipper Symposium if there wasn’t some fun and humor to get our day started! First up was Kecia Gray, Vice President, Marketing & Corporate Communications, who addressed everyone with a short, but very interactive welcome. From highlighting details of how far the event has come over the last 12 years to showing off Shipper Symposium attendee selfies, Kecia thanked all the sponsors, attendees and especially her teams for helping make the Signature Event better and better with each following year.

Reflecting on 20 Years of NAFTA

    - by Transplace

The first day of 2014 marked 20 years to the day of which the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was entered into force by the United States, Canada and Mexico.  According to the Office  of the United States Trade Representative website, NAFTA created the world’s largest free trade area, which now links 450 million people producing $17 trillion worth of goods and services.

To get a better understanding of the impact of NAFTA over the last two decades, we sat down with Transplace Mexico’s managing directors, Troy Ryley and Jose Minarro, to discuss this pivotal agreement, why we’re better off with it and what needs to change.

It’s Time to Strengthen Trade Opportunities with Our North & South American Neighbors

    - by Transplace

Jump Start 2014 in Atlanta was a great event filled with a lot of interaction amongst shippers and logistics companies.

A major topic of focus was the current situation and trade opportunities with both our North American and South American partners.

On the minds of many attendees were questions surrounding what we can expect to see in the near future when it comes to Mexico and the Panama Canal, and just as importantly – how that will affect exports.
