Transplace Business Units: Opportunity Abounds with Celtic Intermodal

    - by Transplace

To define it simply, “intermodal” is the combination of more than one mode of transportation, a method of shipping that has been in practice since 1961. However, for many in the transportation industry, intermodal is still a concept that hasn’t been fully explored.

A few months ago, Transplace partner Celtic International revealed some exciting news – the rollout of Celtic Rail Direct, a collaborative venture with Transplace’s Mexico operations. A door-to-door, seamless double-stack container service that connects all three North American countries; Celtic Rail Direct provides service between U.S., Canadian and Mexican markets in and near Monterrey, San Louis Potosi and Mexico City.

Innovative Solutions for the Mexican Market: It’s Full Steam Ahead for Union Pacific South of the Border

    - by Transplace

There are a number of current issues impacting truckload transportation between the U.S. and Mexico, including driver shortages, long wait times and tightened capacity. In order to continue to make rail and intermodal a viable – and economical – option for cross-border transportation, Union Pacific Railroad is focusing on enhancing the safety, velocity and reliability of its rail systems.

Union Pacific has been investing significantly to support north/southbound volume and gateway access in Mexico. Much of this spending goes toward maintenance and capacity, and the company has also decided to continue investing in double tracking for many of its corridors to add freight capacity – the necessity of which points to strong growth of the Mexican-U.S. gateway.

    Shipper Symposium 2014 – Day 3 Recap

    - by Transplace

The final day did not disappoint as this year’s Shipper Symposium came to a close.  Attendees filed into the main ballroom in anticipation of hearing from speakers Economist Paul Bingham and former President of Mexico Vicente Fox in addition to hearing thoughts from the “NAFTA @ 20” panel.

But it wouldn’t be a Shipper Symposium if there wasn’t some fun and humor to get our day started! First up was Kecia Gray, Vice President, Marketing & Corporate Communications, who addressed everyone with a short, but very interactive welcome. From highlighting details of how far the event has come over the last 12 years to showing off Shipper Symposium attendee selfies, Kecia thanked all the sponsors, attendees and especially her teams for helping make the Signature Event better and better with each following year.

    Shipper Symposium 2014 – Day 2 Recap

    - by Transplace

Day 2 kicked off early for many Shipper Symposium attendees brave enough to face the cooler temps and stormy weather forecast to attend the 12th Annual Charity Golf Classic, but it was worth the gamble as blue skies and sunshine prevailed by late morning.

Instead of golf, some attendees chose to check out the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. As the 13th Presidential Library administered by the National Archives and Records Administration the museum is also a Federal agency and is located on the campus of Southern Methodist University.

PSST! Why HR Requires Your Attention

    - by Transplace

In 2011, Transplace increased its focus on human resources (HR). First, by hiring Adrianne Court as Chief Human Resources Officer and second by supporting her vision, which transformed the HR functions within the organization in less than two years. By focusing on areas such as continuous investment in learning and professional development, reward and recognition and talent development programs, we’ve seen the impacts of a great HR department that are felt both internally by employees and externally by customers.  And most recently, others have recognized it as well. In December, Adrianne was named as DallasHR’s Human Resources Executive of the Year Award, an annual award recognizing an HR executive who has exemplified the strategic role of HR and who is an outstanding leader within the HR community.

The 12-Step Program to Become a Shipper of Choice

    - by Transplace

As we gear up for this year’s 12th Annual Shipper Symposium, we think back to the great speakers we’ve had over the last decade  – from Marci Rossell to T. Boone Pickens and many, many more in between. All have been accomplished and storied speakers to have graced the main stage of our signature event.

Most recently, 2013 speaker Thomas Albrecht from BB&T Capital Markets, shared great insight into what shippers can do to win favor from their carrier base and strengthen these critical relationships. We’ve captured that insight and turned it into 12 steps that shippers can take to become a preferred partner for carriers. Read on to find out what it takes to get to attain preferred partner status.
