What Does Vicente Fox Say? We’ll Find Out at the 2014 Shipper Symposium!

    - by Transplace

We are thrilled to announce that Vicente Fox, former president of Mexico, will be our keynote speaker at the 12th annual Shipper Symposium, May 12-14 in Dallas!

Vicente Fox served as President of Mexico from 2000 to 2006, winning a historic election that ended 71 years of consecutive rule by the Institutional Revolutionary Party.  The efforts of Fox’s presidency included big steps toward improving trade relations with the U.S., the support of NAFTA, and decreasing civil unrest and crime.  He worked passionately to boost Mexico’s economy and end government corruption, and has been an inspiration to many in the political and business world.

    Jump Start 2014 Preview

    - by Transplace

We’re excited to kick-off the 3rd full week of January by attending Jump Start 2014 (Jan 20-22) in Atlanta!  Our very own Managing Director of Transplace Mexico – Troy Ryley – will be part of a panel taking place Wednesday morning that is focused on: “20 Years of NAFTA – Perceptions & Realities”.

According to Troy, the major theme of the panel will be “NAFTA: The Pros and Cons”. He’ll be sharing statistical evidence that shows how Mexico is well-positioned to become a global manufacturing powerhouse. He also mentions how the United States and Mexico make great partners for a number of reasons (some we don’t even think about), which are helping boost Mexico’s global manufacturing stature. Synergies between the two countries allow for mutual benefits. One such example Troy shared is the U.S.’s ability to export natural gas, which is currently at record low prices, to fuel Mexico’s record level high production needs. If you are attending the conference this week, be sure to check out this panel!

Getting the Most Out of Your Freight Broker: Part 3

    - by Transplace

Rounding out our 3-part series on getting more from your freight broker, we turn our attention to supply chain visibility and disruptions, and how critical this partnership becomes when the unexpected happens.

The globalization of manufacturing and its supply chain has created a transportation network at considerable risk of disruption. Blizzards, tornado outbreaks, hurricane events and other natural disasters all impact regional infrastructure and vital systems within the affected areas.  But the true chaos begins after the event —supply chain disruptions are inevitable after large-scale disasters and political unrest. The more companies can do to improve their transportation visibility and agility, the better prepared they are to mitigate the impact of both major disasters as well as navigate around the daily disruptions, such as market fluctuations in capacity and pricing.  Below are five key steps to ensure your company and your freight broker are fully prepared for events that could disrupt your transportation needs:

Getting the Most Out of Your Freight Broker: Part 2

    - by Transplace

Part 2 of our 3-part series on how to get the most out of your freight broker has us focused on building a strategic brokerage partnership. Shippers utilizing freight brokerage services for their transportation have two very basic considerations: desirable price point and reliable, on-time delivery. But when it comes to choosing a brokerage partner, what more should you really be looking for? Price and dependability may be fairly straightforward but they don’t exclude the importance of partnering with your freight broker to strategize on how to better meet your core objectives. A closer, more strategic partnership with a brokerage provider is the key to success for shippers who want to consistently achieve reduced cost and a high level of performance.

Getting the Most Out of Your Freight Broker: Part 1

    - by Transplace

Our first of 3 posts on how to get more out of your freight broker has us asking: How do you know when you’ve found the right freight broker? Getting a deal on price is always a good thing, but there’s more to shipping than just price — you need to find a carrier that understands your specific business priorities and needs.  Rather than just negotiating the terms of a transaction between you and the carrier, a good broker will partner with you to learn exactly how your business works, then deliver fast and efficient service solutions that match your specific needs.

Full Speed Ahead: Railroad Intermodal Sees Growth

    - by Transplace

Our CEO, Tom Sanderson, recently spoke to Supply Chain Brain about the factors driving railroad intermodal growth.  More freight is now moving from truck to intermodal, and the market is rapidly growing because of that conversion.  According to Tom, driving this trend are three particular needs of manufacturers and retailers:

Building Safer Supply Chains as a C-TPAT Member

    - by Transplace

Understanding supply chain risks and establishing security approaches is critical in today’s global market.  Another significant step companies can take to protect their supply chains is to become a member of the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.  Organizations that are C-TPAT members fully cooperate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as C-TPAT was designed to build relationships that strengthen international supply chains and U.S. border security.  It works to safeguard the world’s trade industry while also maintaining the economic health of its members.
